Why MagicInk™ Was Developed

Traditional DTF and DTG systems often depend on pigment-dense white ink to create an opaque base beneath the printed image. White pigment can settle, separate and accumulate inside the ink system, creating the need for agitation, circulation, frequent cleaning, purging and ongoing printhead maintenance.

MagicInk™ takes a different approach.

In supported workflows, MagicInk™ replaces the need for printed white ink with a stable bonding layer that works with the selected powder, foil or specialty transfer material. This helps move textile decoration away from complicated white-ink hardware and toward a simpler system built around engineered ink chemistry and purpose-designed consumables.

What Can You Create with MagicInk™?

MagicInk™ supports several distinct transfer workflows. The correct powder, film and finishing material depend on the printer platform and the desired finished result.

Weedless Monochrome HTF

Print the design with MagicInk™, then apply a colored MagicPowder™.

The powder provides both the adhesive and the visible transfer color, allowing you to create weedless single-color lettering, logos and graphics without printing colored ink.

MagicFoil™ Transfers

Print with MagicInk™ and use Clear MagicPowder™ or the specified bonding process.

MagicFoil™ then provides the final color and finish, including metallic, holographic, reflective and specialty decorative effects.

Full-Color DTF Without White Ink

In supported traditional DTF printer configurations, MagicInk™ can replace the white-ink layer.

The printer’s CMYK inks create the full-color image, while White MagicPowder™ provides the opaque backing and adhesive normally created by white DTF ink and clear adhesive powder.

Basic MagicInk™ Process

Step 1: Print

Print the mirrored design onto compatible transfer film using the MagicInk™ formulation designed for your printer platform.

Step 2: Apply Powder

Apply Clear, White or colored MagicPowder™ based on the selected HTF, foil or DTF workflow.

Step 3: Cure

Cure the powdered transfer using the recommended temperature and time for the selected ink, film and powder combination.

Step 4: Heat Press

Press the cured transfer onto the compatible garment and peel according to the selected workflow.

Step 5: Add the Finish

Apply MagicFoil™ or complete any required finishing press when called for by the application.

MagicInk™ vs. MagicLine™ Desktop Full-Color Transfers

MagicInk™ is used for weedless HTF, foil and selected DTF workflows.

MagicInk™ is not required for the separate MagicLine™ Desktop Full-Color Transfer process. That workflow uses the existing pigment-based CMYK inks in a compatible Canon® or Epson® printer together with MagicLine™ Desktop Transfer Sheets, the appropriate MagicPowder™ and MagicSeal™ Fusion.

Select the MagicInk™ formulation designed for the exact printer platform being used.
Do not mix Canon®, Epson® or traditional DTF formulations unless specifically instructed.
Transfer film, powder, curing, pressing and peel requirements vary by workflow.
Use colored MagicPowder™ when the powder will provide the visible monochrome transfer color.
Use Clear MagicPowder™ or the specified bonding process when MagicFoil™ will provide the final finish.
